Extremely rare and important 4-door “Waves Cabinet” in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-painted blue and green enamels and green lacquered interior by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne 1960s. Engraved “Philip K LaVerne“ on top edge. Shelf edges are finished in bronze and drawers are lined in felt. The top and sides are beautifully mottled as only the LaVernes could. This stunning cabinet is a tour de force of artisanship. The “Waves” motif is one of the most intricate by the LaVernes. They did several works showcasing their love for nature, particularly the ocean. In discussing this series with Kelvin LaVerne for the book in 2023, Kelvin said this cabinet was one of the rarest, with very few in existence. The Waves Series was done in such small numbers that they do not appear in the LaVerne catalogs of the era - they were made for special clients.
