New England, Probably Connecticut Circa 1740

Secondary Woods: White Pine, Poplar
Provenance: The James Meyer Collection, Pennsylvania; John Walton, Jewett City, Connecticut. Mr. and Mrs. T. Simmons, St. Louis, Missouri; Private Collection, New York.
Reference: The attribution to a Connecticut area cabinet shop is based upon a highboy of similar form, with a similar skirt with no drops and pad feet with flattened top surfaces, but which is much less attractive overall as its legs are much less graceful is illustrated in Connecticut Furniture – Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, an exhibition catalog for a show at the Wadsworth Atheneum, 1967, page 45, number 76. -
