Rustic Painted Pine Storage Chest, France, Early 20th Century

$ 3,200
  • Description
    This early 20th century storage chest from France is crafted from solid pine and retains its original green painted surface, now softened and worn through decades of use. The gently arched lid, iron lock plate, and rope side handles emphasize its utilitarian origins, while the hand-painted initials on the front lend the piece a distinctly personal character typical of rural French furniture. The weathered surface reveals layers of age and handling, giving the chest a rich and authentic patina.

    Constructed from sturdy pine planks and reinforced internally, the chest reflects the straightforward craftsmanship of provincial workshops where durability and practicality were essential. Such pieces were commonly used to store linens, clothing, or household provisions, making them central to everyday domestic life. As with many rustic antiques, the surface bears marks consistent with age and historical use. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment to ensure long-term care and preservation.
