Swedish 1780s Gustavian Period Four-Drawer Commode with Chamfered Side Posts
-
Description
A Swedish period Gustavian four-drawer commode from the late 18th century with its old hardware. This Swedish chest circa 1780 features a rectangular top with chamfered sides in the front. Each drawer is adorned with oval escutcheons and handles. In typical Gustavian style, the decor is very limited, except for the fluted side posts and the delicately carved skirt. The chest is raised on four short angled feet. The light color of the chest reminds us of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at bringing light into the homes during the long and dark winters. The clean lines, lovely color and proportions make this Swedish Gustavian commode a wonderful choice for any home, from a beach house to a more traditional setting.
