Description
A Swedish Gustavian period buffet, circa 1800 with three-quarter framed top, two doors, carved reeded motifs and bracket plinth. Step into the heart of Scandinavian design with this Swedish Gustavian period buffet, circa 1800. This timeless piece boasts a three-quarter framed top, nestled above two front doors carved with elegant reeded motifs. As a stunning focal point for any room, this buffet merges the utilitarian with the artistic, capturing the essence of Gustavian aesthetics.
A rectangular top bordered by raised panels on three sides complements the rustic interior of the buffet. Opening the front doors reveals inner shelves, offering convenient storage and display space for your cherished items.
The soft, distressed paintwork evokes the understated elegance typical of Scandinavian taste, harmoniously fusing an antique appeal with contemporary functionality. Side panels are designed with minimalism in mind, keeping the focus on the meticulously carved front doors. While the back remains unfinished, this only adds to the rustic allure of the piece.
The Gustavian Style takes its roots in the Louis XVI era. Swedish King Gustav III resided in 1771 in Paris, at the beginning stages of the Louis XVI style. There, he was inspired by French art and fashion. With that in his luggage, he had a strong desire to introduce something similar in Sweden. The country had fine craftsmen with high quality craftsmanship, who produced a simple style with harmonious aesthetics. The Gustavian Style was born and has been in vogue ever since. It is incredibly popular, especially in England but also in France and in the USA. Price and age are of course inextricably linked, the older and rarer the higher the price!
Built to last, this Gustavian period buffet is a striking testament to early 19th century Swedish craftsmanship. Its Classic design and artisan detailing will not only add historical charm but will elevate the decor of any space. -
