Description
This vernacular Travail Populaire cabinet, produced in France during the 19th century, reflects a direct and utilitarian approach to rural craftsmanship. Constructed from solid wood, it features a compact, robust form with a single door fitted with hand-forged iron hardware. A small central opening within the door adds a subtle functional and visual detail, while the interior is arranged with simple shelving for practical storage.
The piece is defined by its worn surface, visible tool marks, and deeply developed patina, bearing witness to long-term use. Rooted in French vernacular traditions, its construction is guided by necessity and material availability, resulting in a restrained yet sculptural presence that aligns naturally with wabi-sabi sensibilities. As with all our rustic furniture, this piece has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term preservation. -
