Description
19th century French ormolu mounted bijouterie table
French, Late 19th Century
Height 75cm, width 62cm, depth 44cm
A bijouterie table is a compact and sophisticated piece of furniture, crafted with glazed tops and sides, ideal for showcasing jewellery and other treasured objects. The fine example in the Mayfair Gallery collection originates from late 19th-century France and stands as a remarkable testament to the artistry of its creators.
This antique, designed in the Louis XV style, features an ornate ormolu-mounted top inset with a glass panel. The top, which can be securely locked, opens on three hinges to reveal an opulent interior lined with rich olive-green fabric. Glass panels encircle the display area, each bordered with an intricately designed ormolu frame, adding refinement to the piece.
The shaped apron elegantly connects the four cabriole legs, which are adorned with ormolu sabots. These sabots echo the decorative corner friezes attached to the knees of the legs, which are embellished with scrolling ormolu mounts.
The ormolu mount is stamped ‘RM’ while the lockplate is stamped with the maker’s mark.
This exquisitely made bijouterie table is perfect for displaying cherished collectibles, lending a luxurious and distinguished touch to their presentation. -
