Description
Pair of early 19th century Swedish Empire Painted Wooden Pedestals. Constructed from solid pine with architectural box-column bodies resting on molded, water-leaf egg-and-dart base plinths. The upper frieze sections are decorated with applied composition laurel relief swags below egg-and-dart crown moldings supporting flat, square display tops. The front facing panels feature applied carved or gesso torch-and-garland urn motifs. The back panels consist of exposed, unpainted pine boards showing original hand-planed joinery. The surfaces retain multiple historical layers of distressed white and light grey paint over exposed gesso and timber ground.
