Description
A Chinese cloisonné enamel inset circular carved hardwood pedestal
Chinese, early 20th Century
Height 34cm, diameter 45cm
Made in China in the early twentieth century, this elegant yet humble piece is a carved hardwood stand, inlaid with a beautiful decorative circular panel of cloisonné enamel. Depicting a pair of songbirds in a vibrant floral space, the ground in bright blue contrasts with the rich tone of the wooden structure, and serves to bring out the delicate and beautiful work that comprises the birds and the floral blossoms around which they flit.
The contrast between the large blossoms in the centre, the small red flowers around the exterior, and the subtle shifting tones of green in the birds' wings is particularly pleasing, making this piece a fine demonstration of the prowess of Chinese enamel craftsmen, and a delightful interior addition to the right space. -
