Description
A striking steel and stone table studio-made by American sculptor Albert Paley (1944-). The table heavy and substantial and will be a bespoken center piece and a focal point with its otherworldly presence. Highly sculptural frame was made from forged steel in the iconic style instantly recognizable by the artist. The design of the pedestaled frame is ingenuine to support two pieces of thick polished black slabs. They are most likely soapstone with subtle embedded natural elements, honed to a beautiful black matt finish. Each of triangular shape, together they meet along their diagonal divide to form a square top. The hard steel, as a medium, was manipulated by the artist to its physical limit and appears to be soft and flowing like organic matter. The slab was beveled and notched along the edge and carried two groove design that converge in the center of the table to complement the form of the frame. The table bears the Impressed signature and date to base "ALBERT PALEY 1990". The table is very heavy as a large model, also with thick granite top. It has a substantial presence that will be a focal point for any space.
Albert Paley is one of the most distinguished and influential metalsmiths in the world and first metal sculptor to have received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects. -
