Description
Elegant Italian 1950's modern writing desk in the style of Vittorio Dassi featuring a flat pale green top with a finely crafted solid walnut frame. The asymmetrical design incorporates a suspended drawer cabinet with sculpted fronts, balanced by slender tapered solid wood legs. Exposed patina brass metal tension rods provide both structural support and a distinctive architectural detail that is characteristic of postwar Italian design.
Exemplifying the lightness and refined craftsmanship of 1950s Milanese modernism, the desk reflects the aesthetic language which may be associated with the Vittorio Dassi workshop, known for its innovative dynamic proportions, and sophisticated construction techniques.
While the desk bears no maker’s mark or accompanying documentation, it is attributed to Vittorio Dassi based on form, materials, and construction methods, and corresponds closely to well-documented examples in Italian design history. Dassi didn't normally sign his pieces. As with many pieces from this period, the absence of a label is typical and does not detract from its recognized design provenance. -
