Description
A one off masterpiece by Amulet Berton (1875 - 1967). Italian carved wood faux bois vine branch polychrome centre table parcel gilt with onyx top in the Venetian style.
Italy circa 1920-1930.
The elongated cartouche-shaped top inset with a wonderful radial pattern of onyx within a moulded border, on a polychome and parcel-gilt frame naturalistically carved depicting fruiting vine of tree branches, leaves, grapes, snails, lizard and dragonfly with the shaped cross stretcher with a finial carved with two doves.
This outstanding table almost fantasy like is inspired by Venetian designs combining the exuberance of rococo with the enthusiasm for naturalistic carving so beloved of the Italian craftsman.
I view this table as a piece of art…it transports you to a mythical place of warmth and comfort…a truly inspiring one off piece that as a company we just had own.
Amelto Bertoni was founded in 1919. He was an important furniture entrepreneur who had the ability, courage and determination necessary to make a great dream come true: to make his adopted city, Saluzzo, a great capital of art furniture. He succeeded so well that Saluzzo is now known worldwide for its artisan carpentry workshops. In his factory he hired the best craftsmen, always demanding the best quality of work, recovering ancient techniques and adopting modern innovations.
