Realized in the manner of Demétre Chiparus, this illuminated pedestal represents the Art Deco revival movement in America at its very best. The piece features a skyscraper style base with alternating tiers of exotic cream onyx and black marble. The volumetric rectangular body of the pedestal rises from the base where it intersects with a larger form of the same shape with faceted shoulders and black inverse stylized skyscraper style motifs flanking its base. In the center of this upper form- also of carved cream onyx sits an oval pendant featuring two nude ladies dancing, each with an arm stretched towards the sky, and a leg kicked back in apparently ecstatic movement. Streamlined striations, as well as stylized floral details, occupy the background of the two female figures. The plinth style top of the pedestal is also rendered in exotic onyx of the same variety, underscored by a black marble detail on the neck of the piece. With its iconically Art Deco materials and motifs, this piece is sure to delight enthusiasts of this design style, as well as those with a penchant for exquisite objects. While this piece is a perfectly functional pedestal- ideal for presenting sculptures and objet d'arts- it is also a work of art in its own right. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Deco to contemporary. Excellent vintage condition.
