Description
A substantial and beautifully resolved Brazilian modern desk produced by Ava during the 1960s, exemplifying the period’s focus on functionality, material richness, and architectural clarity.
Crafted from solid Brazilian rosewood (jacarandá), the desk features an expansive rectangular top executed in rosewood and rosewood veneer, offering both visual depth and structural durability. The tabletop is elevated and secured to the base by four supporting arms, creating an open, floating effect while allowing for practical storage space beneath—an intelligent design detail characteristic of mid-century Brazilian office furniture.
The base is composed of two drawer banks, each housing four spacious drawers, for a total of eight, providing ample and well-organized storage. The clean, horizontal drawer fronts emphasize the natural grain of the rosewood, while the solid construction and four sturdy legs give the desk a confident, grounded presence.
Recently refinished, the rosewood has aged beautifully, revealing warm tonal variation and expressive veining across all surfaces. The desk presents in excellent vintage condition, with only minor age-appropriate wear consistent with its period.
Equally suited as an executive desk or a statement workspace, this piece reflects the high level of craftsmanship and thoughtful design that defined Brazilian furniture production in the 1960s. -
