Barley Twist Baroque Side Table, 17th Century
-
Description
This is a superb example of a late 17th century Franco-Flemish period Louis XIV side table or writing table. The table is in original condition with an old multi-layer waxed surface. The two board walnut top is supported by beefy, but elegant and proportional, barley twist legs resting on their original bun feet. The serpentine center stretcher is supported by a fifth original bun foot and is surmounted by its original carved finial. The stretcher exhibits very old restorations, as shown in the photos. There is a loss to the back right corner of the table which we have decided to leave as it is--the loss does not structurally affect the table and the loss is only minimally apparent when view from the front.
