British Regency Tilt-Top Center Table with Exceptional Veneers
-
Description
Presenting an absolutely gorgeous early 19th century Regency, exotic hardwood tilt-top center table.
The patina/veneers on this table are simply stunning.
It is reminiscent of tigerwood but is in fact, rosewood.
British Regency, circa 1810-1820. It is inlaid with a brass ring on the top.
It has a 57 inch diameter and 57 inches tall and is beautifully proportioned. The tilt mechanism works perfectly. It sits on a cylindrical center column and tripod base with beautifully turned feet on original brass castors. It has a satin finish and not high gloss or highly polished making it even more tactile.
We bought this piece from a reputable dealer in Ireland. When we bought it, we noticed that the table top had been re-finished by someone at some stage in it’s life and it didn’t reflect the beautiful veneers and finish of the base. The top had been covered in a red/orange stain or paint that looked ‘ghastly’. So we decided to ‘strip’ off the hideous finish to see what lay beneath. When we removed the layers of varnish and paint/stain we were AMAZED to discover the original finish !!
The table you now see is the ‘ORIGINAL’ finish and veneer and is breathtakingly beautiful !
So, in a nutshell, we are obliged to reveal and inform buyers that this table top has been ‘refinished’ BUT in reality it has only been restored to it’s ORIGINAL condition, with STUNNING results !
You will not find another one like it !!!
We have seen many, many tables like this over the years but this one is TRULY UNIQUE !! -
