French Mid-Century Coffee Table / Sculpture in Compressed Copper & Bronze, Cesar

Description
This French Mid-Century modern coffee table bears the striking hand of Cesar's radical compressions. The table is formed from compressed copper and bronze circular rods with some ending in ball finials. A top of 48" round glass rests on top.
Ce?sar Baldaccini was at the forefront of the Nouveau Re?alisme movement with his radical compressions (compacted automobiles, discarded metal, or rubbish), expansions (polyurethane foam sculptures), and fantastic representations of animals and insects. He also belonged to the School of Nice who were a group of young artists who defined themselves as bearing in common their "new perspective approaches of reality." They were reassessing the concept of art and the artist for a 20th century consumer society by reasserting the humanistic ideals in the face of (rebellion against) Industrial Expansion.
