Description
Probably English, ca. 1770-1785.
Mahogany.
Fine condition, minor repairs to lip edges, retaining a wonderful, old historic varnish finish.
Superbly carved, this table captures many features we see on American tea tables or candlestands having swirl, urn-form carved shafts with acanthus carved knees, terminating into elongated carved ball and claw feet. The exceptional quality of the figured mahogany one board top is also a very desirable feature. 27 ½” h., 34? dia. (top). Provenance: private collection, Cleveland, Ohio, ca. 1965. Illustrated: American Art of the Colonies and Early Republic, The Art Institute of Chicago, 1971., pg. 36, plt. 36. -
