Description
Late 18th–early 19th century Italian Louis XVI–style guéridon / game table, exhibiting finely executed marquetry and elegant neoclassical proportions. The circular, removable top is veneered with a parquetry chessboard to one side and a finely rendered village scene to the reverse. The drum-form surface is fitted with its original tooled leather insert, showing age-appropriate patina consistent with period use.
The frieze is beautifully inlaid with alternating geometric veneers and houses two drawers and two pull-out slides, all retaining their original oval bronze pulls. The apron decoration reflects classic Louis XVI taste, emphasizing symmetry and restraint.
The table is raised on slender, square, tapering legs, terminating in bronze caps and casters, providing both elegance and mobility. Warm, well-preserved wood tones and crisp marquetry details are evident throughout.
Ideally scaled for use as a games table, occasional table, or side table, it is perfectly suited for placement between two chairs or at the end of a sofa and comfortably accommodates a lamp. -
