Description
Contemporary designer Djivan Schapira has unveiled his latest creation, the Saros Console, a stunning fusion of form, light, and material that pushes his innovative vision. Drawing inspiration from his experimental research on the Orbit Occasional Table Series VII-XII, Schapira sought to amplify the elements he cherishes from that collection while introducing a new dimension for the artist: light.
The Saros Console is a captivating exploration of how resin can interact with illumination. Schapira’s earlier pieces showcased resin’s ability to capture natural light, creating captivating effects. With this console, he advances the idea by incorporating backlighting, allowing the resin to glow and creating a dynamic play of light and shadow that ties into its celestial namesake.
Named after the Saros cycle—an astrological pattern that predicts eclipses—the console embodies a sense of cosmic wonder. Schapira’s signature style, characterized by intricate inclusions in resin, harmonizes with the celestial motifs, making the piece not just a functional object, but a work of art.
Moreover, integrating artificial light into his creations posed its own set of challenges. Schapira approached this element with the same elegance and subtlety that defines his aesthetic, resulting in a piece that seamlessly blends functionality with artistry.
Looking ahead, Schapira envisions incorporating more lighting elements into his future works. The ethereal blazes of light produced by the interplay of light, form, and resin resonate deeply with his artistic vision, propelling him toward new creative horizons. The Saros Console marks a significant milestone in Schapira’s oeuvre where light and material unite to create captivating experiences.
Schapira’s work has been featured in world-renowned publications including Interior Design Magazine, Architectural Digest, Modern Luxury, Surface Magazine, and Owners: a French magazine exclusively for Aston Martin owners. In addition to winning an internationally acclaimed A’ Design Award for his Andromeda Cocktail Table in 2019, Schapira was the winning recipient of both the NYCxDESIGN Emerging Product Designer of the Year Award in the Furniture category, as well as the People’s Choice Award which crossed all mediums.
