Antique English Victorian marquetry writing desk by Donald Ross

This superb mahogany writing desk by Donald Ross features Ross’ distinctive “trellis and dot” marquetry of satinwood and rosewood. The desk is surmounted by a top adorned with this idiosyncratic marquetry, which is framed in gilt bronze and set above a conforming apron inset with twin drawers, between of which is a gilt bronze frame containing a porcelain plaque. The table is supported by four tapering legs, which are framed in gilt bronze and terminate in gilt bronze sabots.
One drawer is stamped ‘Edwards & Roberts’ for the retailer.
