English Victorian Lacquered Tilt-Top Table

This English Victorian period tilt-top table has a shaped circular top, decorated with polychrome paint and inlaid mother-of-pearl, depicting birds amidst flowers, all on a black lacquered ground, raised on a central baluster supported by three curved legs, all decorated with gilded patterns on a black lacquered ground.
The fashion for black lacquered, parcel gilded, polychrome painted and mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture, often made of papier mache, was extremely popular in the third quarter of the 19th century in Europe, especially after the 1851 Great Exhibition at London's Crystal Palace, where many inventive and finely decorated pieces were shown.

Condition:	Good. Very good antique condition, with minor losses and restorations to the painted and parcel gilded surfaces, all consistent with age, and with later wooden board affixed to bottom of tilt top for added strength. Wear consistent with age and use.
