Description
Attributed to Nehemiah Adams (1769-1840).
Salem, Massachusetts, ca. 1800. Mahogany, mahogany veneer, various woods, pine, secondary wood.
Over-all in excellent condition, small patch at rear corner, minor shrinkage cracks commensurate with age and use.
This fine Federal card table has a bowed front with elliptical sides supported by turned, reeded legs tapering to bulbous feet. The front and side panels are faced with mahogany veneer and embellished with inlaid patterns above the legs, with a central oval pattern set inside a rectangular panel. Superb quality to the cabinetry.
Provenance: Purchased from Israel Sack, Inc., New York, 1953 (accompanied with original sales receipt). Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Hofheimer, Norfolk, Virginia.
