    Provenance: The interior of the case is fitted with a brass plaque which reads: This table came from the Dwight Prouty Collection Nov 1919 Mr. Prouty gave the information that it is the table used in Mt. Vernon by Martha Washington who gave it to her colored servant from whose descendants Mr. Proutly purchased it Shreve Crump & Low Co. To Israel Sack, Inc., New York.
