Description
Attributed to Joseph Short (1771-1819).
Newburyport, Massachusetts, ca. 1800-1810.
Mahogany, maple block.
Over-all in good condition, minor shrinkage cracks at base, replaced latch.
Having great form and constructed with dense mahogany, the tilt-top has notched corners above a turned shaft with a carved urn and is supported by cabriole legs. The carved, peaked ridge on the shaped feet is a strong attribute of Short’s work. -
