Fine Near Pair of Georgian Padouk Fretwork Gallery Tables
-
Description
Very fine near pair of George II period padouk fretwork gallery tea tables, the pierced laminated galleries with trellis designs over shaped single board tops, each with birdcage mechanisms and standing on carved tripod bases: one with baluster stem having sprial fluted urn column standing on ball and claw feet, the other with fluted shaft and standing on acanthus and bellflower carved legs also ending in ball and claw feet.
While clearly not made as a pair, these two tables most likely originated in the same workshop, possibly in China for the English market. There are several design and structural elements which indicate a common and likely Asian origin. We were very pleased to buy one table a year ago and delighted when its cousin appeared on the market. While we would sell individually, we are excited to offer the opportunity to acquire both. -
