French antique marquetry dressing table with mirror and gilt-metal mounts

$ 7,500
  • Description
    French antique marquetry dressing table with mirror and gilt-metal mounts
    French, c.1920
    Height 75cm, width 56cm, depth 46cm

    Featuring gilt metal mounts, a hinged top opening with a mirror and a single drawer, this charming piece is an ornate, very fine, delightful diminutive piece, made in France in the early 20th century. A pleasing vintage item of furniture, it is most notable for the large, intricate marquetry design to the upper surface - a superb demonstration of this decorative technique - and the gilt-metal mounts, which are unusually ornate and engraved throughout.

    The table surface is decorated with a large marquetry design centred on a large, bright, sunburst pattern, with a series of four intricate, geometric, fractal designs in each quadrant. A charming piece, with a blend of both understated and humble qualities, yet in touches beautifully ornate, this delightful dressing table will make a beautiful interior addition for those with a love of French antique furniture and early twentieth century art, inspired by both the Belle Epoque and the Art Nouveau.
