Description
Gary Magakis’ hand-made, unique bronze Stacked Low Table projects a pleasing weight and gravity. Like large, flat, river stones, the forms that make up the table’s level planes casually reference the centuries old stone walls that populate Magakis’ rural surroundings in Pennsylvania. The density of the silhouettes is juxtaposed with a cantilevered weightlessness giving the table a sense of playfulness while retaining a muscular visual power.
Inspired by Constructivism and the cantilevered rooms by Frank Lloyd Wright, Gary Magakis channels architectural elements in design while tapering each of his forms uniquely. Though each of the table’s geometric sections appear sharp at first glance, they are actually gracefully curvilinear, as the entire piece lacks any straight lines or edges.
Magakis’ series of unique, sculptural furniture are featured in the Financial Times’ How to Spend It, April 2015.
A bespoke version with custom dimensionality and finishes may be commissioned.
