    A Rare and Elegant Italian MId-Century Modern Neoclassical Desk / Writing Table by Gio Ponti in solid walnut with an inset top of black onyx glass and brass details. Ponti's design acumen is powerful and sublime in this piece; the desk is a masterpiece of form and materials. It is sleek and sensuous with its bold lines, using strong tapered, sabered legs that finish with brass sabots. The black onyx glass is rare and delicately inset and sets this piece apart from many Ponti desks of this period. The deep double drawers are elegant with their minimal hardware and are finished with a set of matching brass locks and keys. Provenance: The desk was designed by Ponti and made by Schirolli for a senior executive at the Banco Nazionale del Lavoro, Italy. (BNL). Dimensions: H 31.5 x W 47.25 x D 27.25.
