Description
Gilt bronze mounted mahogany round table by Henry Dasson
French, 1884
Height 77cm, diameter 37cm
This circular side table by Henry Dasson is surmounted by an inset marble top, which is bounded by a gilt bronze ring and is set above a mahogany apron. The table stands on three two-column gilt bronze legs, which in turn meet the ground on gilt bronze hoof feet. The three legs are joined by a mahogany stretcher.
This type of side table—its form, styling, and particularly its double-column legs—follows Adam Weisweiler. Weisweiler, a French cabinet maker, established the form of the “doubles colonnettes” circular side table, which proved to be exceptionally popular and influential in 19th century France. -
