Description
Very fine George III burr Yewwood Pembroke table, the oval top with central satinwood and harewood patera, on book-matched, segmented burr yew ground with satinwood banded edgel over single drawer retaining original brass pull and standing on molded tapered legs ending in original brass box castors, the whole possessing fantastic color and patination, in the manner of Ince and Mayhew.
Yewwood, especially burr yew, is one of the most prized of the native English timbers and was a particular favorite of the London firm of Ince and Mayhew, and several well documented pieces by them incorporating yew are known. The recently published Industry and Ingenuity: The Partnership of William Ince and John Mayhew by Hugh Roberts and Charles Cator, provides numerous examples. -
