Description
Extremely rare example of an English Regency Octagonal Period Center Table - Executed by one of the foremost exponents of important furniture during the reign of the Prince Regent . Of an unusual design and with inlays and gilt work of such high standard suggesting an individual commission .
The contrasting colours of the wood - giltwood and various specimen marbles blend together into a fusion of brilliance whilst still managing to be of good taste without being garish .
Attributable to James Newton ( 1773- 1821 ) very much a senior in workmanship and design - trained in the celebrated workshops of Lawrence Fell and William Turton , business rivals of the great Thomas Chippendale and in the tradition of ambitious men , married the daughter of the latter .
Commissioned pieces for Mathew Boulton of Soho House - the Earl of Jersey at Osterly and Sir Christopher Heathcote .
ORIGINAL MARBLE TOP.........The Carrara White Marble Incorporates Specimens of Lapis Lazuli, Antico Rossi , Giallo Sienna , Cipollono , Mandolato Rosso , Brecciato , Big Antico .
