Description
This is a wonderful example of a Japanese Negoro Lacquer Low or Coffee Table. Traditional Japanese low table are between 12 and 15 inches in height; this table must have been created for the export market and it measures a very comfortable 18 inches--coffee table height. The dimensions of the table are generous making this a great table for a spacious living or family room. The table is in overall very good condition. there are a few areas of the lacquered surface (as shown in the photos) that we are restoring and there is the normal anticipated light patina. In a prior life, a thick glass top was added to protect the lacquer.
****Please contact MJH Design Arts for competitive shipping quotes to the South and East Coast.
***Negoro lacquer is a Japanese lacquer technique in which various colors of lacquer (in this case black and orange-red) are layered on top of another. Originally, the top layer was worn away gradually, from use, revealing the different colored layer underneath. -
