Carved Pequi Wood Coffee Table

Creator: José Zanine Caldas
Offered by: Tresecco

Description
A carved pequi wood coffee table by José Zanine Caldas, made in Brazil circa 1975. The table is formed from a substantial section of wood, with an irregular rounded top and three integrated block legs. It aligns with Caldas’ later furniture practice, particularly his well known “móveis-denúncia,” or “outcry furniture”: hand-carved works made from large pieces of timber, often tied to his concern for forests, craft and Brazil’s material culture. The table is branded to the side “Caldas Filho.”
