PAIR OF “GEA” BEDSIDE TABLES, KAZUHIDE TAKAHAMA, GAVINA EDITION (1961)

Pair of semi-circular tables, designed in the early 1960s by Japanese designer Kazuhide Takahama for Italian publisher Gavina.

Designer: Kazuhide Takahama, born in Japan in 1930, embodies throughout his career a subtle dialogue between Japanese culture and Western influence. Trained in architecture at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, from which he graduated in 1953, he only four years later designed the Japanese pavilion at the XI Triennale in Milan. This event marked the beginning of a long-term collaboration with European designers, in particular Dino Gavina, with whom he designed pieces that have become design classics, such as GEA tables. The purity and lightness of its shapes reflect its Japanese heritage, while the refined use of lacquer testifies to its attachment to Japanese craft traditions.

Inspiration: Thanks to their modular design, these side tables lend themselves to multiple uses: end table, bedside table or assembled to compose a harmonious circle. In a perfect state of preservation, they bear witness to both impeccable craftsmanship and the timelessness of Takaha’s design
