Large 19th Century French Cast Iron Faux Bois Pedestal Table

Offered by: Jacqueline Adams Antiques

Description
A large 19th century French cast iron pedestal table in the faux bois taste, the celebrated technique in which iron was cast to imitate rustic branches and bark. The generous round top rests on a sculptural pedestal base modeled as entwined boughs, a form popularized in the Second Empire when the fashion for naturalism transformed French garden design. Faux bois pieces of this scale are among the most sought-after categories of antique garden furniture, and large pedestal tables are particularly rare. The iron surface carries an old weathered finish with the texture and depth that only long outdoor exposure produces. Suited to a garden, orangerie, or dramatic interior use, with wear consistent with age.

This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions!
