Description
A beautiful late Gustavian game table, circa 1840, crafted in cherry with nutwood inlays, combining refined neoclassical design with playful function. The rectangular top is inlaid with a checkerboard for chess or draughts, framed by a clean edge molding. The top lifts to reveal a hidden interior, finely decorated with an inlaid backgammon board, offering two classic games in one piece of furniture. Resting on straight, tapered legs with understated carved details at the feet, the table balances elegance with utility. The warm cherry grain contrasts beautifully with the darker nutwood, enhancing the visual appeal. Perfect for a library, salon, or living space, this dual-purpose table reflects the Gustavian tradition of simplicity, symmetry, and craftsmanship, while also serving as a delightful conversation piece.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
