Louis XVI Dining Table
-
Description
This is a great example of a late Louis XVI/Directoire large extending dining table in walnut. The table appears to retain its original or old surface and its old, not original, 14" wide leaves. The table is oval with the drop leaves raised and measures 70" W x 55" D x 29.25" H. With one leaf inserted, the table converts to a nearly round 70" dining table. With all six of the 14" leaves inserted, the table measures 139" in length. All elements of the table are in very good condition. The original height of the table was 28 inches, standard for dining tables of the period. We have taken the liberty of raising the height by slightly over one inch to bring the table to a modern table height. The remaining elements of the table are original, with newer, but old, leaves and are in very good condition. We have applied several coats of hard paste wax, in the centuries old French tradition.
*** We have a similar French extending table in solid mahogany that is listed separately. -
