Description
18th century French cabinet makers sought to make great furniture by creating works that blended rare materials in exotic but harmonious ways. Jansen re-affirms this with a modern neoclassical coffee table from the midcentury that has a top of grey veined Carrara marble surrounded by a bronze gallery, the rich wood veneers are also highlighted by bronze and there are slide out side panels with red leather tops that expand the table's surface area. Elegant details, luxurious and harmonious. Table expands from 36 to 60" with side panels fully extended.
Exhibited: Jansen Furniture: A History of Elegance; Thomas Gallery, New York, October/November 2007. See Online Exhibition or Press Section for On-line Catalog.
Bibliography: See Jansen Furniture by James Abbott Archer, p. 204 & p.274 for tables that utilize similar design concepts.
