Description
Marble, mahogany, and ormolu Louis XVI style centre table
French, early 20th century
Height 65.5cm, width 85cm, depth 52cm
With a large rectangular pink granite surface resting upon a guilloche frieze, this fine antique centre table, crafted in the late nineteenth century, mixes both Rococo and Neoclassical elements in the Louis XVI style. The four legs are crafted in the manner of Adam Weisweiler, a pre-eminent Parisian ébéniste, of whom these caryatid-like legs are typical, and they are joined to make a raised and galleried lower under tier, made in the same pink granite as the top surface. The combination of materials and decoration lend the table a playful and pleasing quality, making it an eminently desirable piece.
After/Maker: after Weisweiler -
