Description
This dining table is a rare variation of French artist Maria Pergay's iconic Gerbe model, dating back to 1970. It features a cluster of flat and curved blades in polished steel, brushed steel, and polished brass, topped with an oval grey smoked glass slab. The sinuous curves of the materials evoke fluidity and movement, adding a dynamic and sculptural element to the piece, while its slick smoked glass surface finishes to structure the piece and keeps playing with the light. Bearing witness to Maria Pergay's ingenuity and talent, this dining table will bring a unique touch of elegance to any interior. The table has been restored, and is found in an amazing condition. The glass top has been newly replaced, and could be even bigger. Examples of bigger glass tops can be found on Wright website, where a bigger top gerbe table sold for $126.000 on September 2005, or on Demisch Danant website, with an extra large rectangle glass top.
Maria Pergay (1930 - 2023) is a French furniture designer of Moldovan origin, internationally renowned for her innovative creations taming steel, a material she considers "as precious as the finest wood." By the late 1960s, Pergay set herself apart from her contemporaries with her innovative approach that combines clean lines and raw materials to create pieces that are both functional and artistic. Over the decades, Maria Pergay has become a leading figure in the creative field, notably through her iconic creations (e.g., this Gerbe table, or the Totem wall sconces) that have helped redefine the standards of contemporary design. Today, her metallic signature continues to inspire and captivate furniture enthusiasts worldwide.
