Andrea Salvetti pair of neo-gothic chairs solid pine 1994

  • Description
This very beautiful pair of neo-Gothic chairs in solid pine was created in 1994 by Andrea Salvetti for his own residence. The model is representative of the designer’s universe, in which furniture becomes a direct extension of a poetic and naturalistic reflection, blending historical references with organic forms. Conceived as true entities, the chairs fully express Salvetti’s vision of an inhabited design. They are distinguished by their highly elongated backrests, with almost architectural silhouettes reminiscent of stylized arches. This pronounced verticality gives the pieces a totemic presence, almost religious, balancing between austerity and poetry, at the threshold between furniture and work of art. The choice of pine, a humble and living material, reinforces Salvetti’s close relationship with nature, revealing an expressive patina shaped by time and gesture. Each seat conceals an integrated storage compartment, introducing a subtle functional dimension. The design is documented by a scan of Andrea Salvetti’s personal notebook, in which the original drawing of the model appears, further enhancing the historical significance and uniqueness of this ensemble.

Andrea Salvetti (1967–2017) was an Italian sculptor and designer whose work stands at the intersection of design, art and sculpture. Born in Bozzano, Italy, he developed a singular and deeply organic approach, drawing primary inspiration from nature. His work is characterized by sculptural silhouettes and a strong poetic dimension, expressing a desire to preserve the memory and the fragile balance of natural materials through furniture. Using materials such as wood, metal and marble, shaped through an immediately recognizable personal language, Salvetti created works including tree-trunk-inspired mirrors, nest-like armchairs and eroded tables, all bearing witness to his singular vision. Presented at the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999 and exhibited internationally, notably at Art Basel Miami in 2012, Andrea Salvetti established himself as a distinct figure within contemporary Italian design, where furniture becomes a true extension of sculpture.
