  • Description
This very rare dining set, designed by Nanna Ditzel and produced by Poul Kolds Savværk in Denmark during the 1950s, is a masterful expression of mid-century Scandinavian design. Comprising a dining table and a set of chairs—specifically the elegant model 110, first presented at Købestævnet in Fredericia in 1954—the ensemble reflects Ditzel’s unique talent for balancing minimalism, material richness, and sculptural form.

Constructed from solid teak, the set showcases warm, golden-brown tones that have matured into a rich patina over time. The wood grain is finely figured, with smooth surfaces that speak to the precision craftsmanship of Poul Kolds Savværk, a manufacturer known for its exceptional woodworking standards during the mid-20th century. The table features clean, rectilinear lines and a subtle edge profile, emphasizing the natural beauty of the wood without superfluous detailing.

The chairs are defined by their light, refined construction, with subtly curved backrests that offer both ergonomic support and visual grace. The back legs gently taper and splay outward, creating an elegant stance while ensuring structural stability. The seats are woven in natural cane, offering a tactile and breathable surface that complements the hardness of the teak with organic delicacy. The cane remains in excellent vintage condition, with only minor signs of age, testifying to the durability of both materials and technique.

Nanna Ditzel (1923–2005), one of Denmark’s most progressive and innovative designers, brought a sense of lightness and artistic experimentation to her furniture, textiles, and industrial designs. Her work during the 1950s stood out for its fluid, organic forms and attention to material honesty. This dining set, created early in her career, exemplifies those values—combining practical function with aesthetic sensitivity, and standing as an early marker of her visionary approach to design.

The entire set remains in outstanding vintage condition. The teak surfaces have been well-preserved, with only light surface wear consistent with age and respectful use. The woven cane is taut and intact, preserving the integrity and usability of the chairs without compromising their historical authenticity.

As a complete and original dining ensemble by one of Denmark’s most significant 20th-century designers, this set is both a collectible design artifact and a testament to the enduring elegance of Danish modern craftsmanship. It is a rare opportunity to acquire a cohesive and beautifully preserved example of Nanna Ditzel’s early and influential work.
