Description
Whorl Console — Concrete Canvas
Continuing Sculptural Edition Studio Commission
An iconic sculptural console defined by fluid movement, structural daring, and quiet luxury. The Whorl Console transforms an industrial material into a lyrical architectural form, appearing to defy gravity while maintaining complete structural integrity.
Winner of the Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award and the Gray Award for Product Design, the Whorl Console has been widely recognized for its originality, material innovation, and sculptural presence.
“It’s an incredible achievement — the studies he undertook, his enthusiasm for the material, his persistence in following his ideas, and, of course, the shape.” — Ingo Maurer, Gray Awards Jury
Each Whorl Console is individually hand-formed using Concrete Canvas, a technically demanding cement-based fabric that becomes stone-like when cured. The material is shaped at its most malleable state, allowing a continuous line to fold into structure, surface, and support. No two works are ever identical.
The surface is finished with hand-applied pigmented cement mortar, lightly skim-coated and polished to a smooth, stone-like sheen. Subtle variations in curvature, texture, and tone are inherent to the process and contribute to each piece’s individuality.
The Whorl Console is held in private collections internationally, with acquisitions across North America, Europe, China, and Australia. Its fabrication process has been the subject of an award-winning documentary, screened at film festivals on three continents.
