Original Louis XVI Period Italian Bedside Table with Marquetry, Late 18th Cent
-
Description
This rare Italian bedside table from the Louis XVI period, dating to the late 18th century, is a masterwork of neoclassical design and marquetry. Crafted with a solid walnut structure, it is finely veneered in a selection of fruitwoods, including maple and cherry, and enriched with intricate inlaid patterns.
The front door features an elaborate central medallion with a radiating foliate motif, while the drawer above is decorated with a delicate floral frieze. Contrasting inlays run along the apron and legs, including darkened wood banding and stylized geometric motifs that highlight the table’s architectural harmony.
Raised on tapering legs and complete with its original hardware, this petite cabinet is both functional and decorative—ideal as a nightstand or occasional table. Its craftsmanship reflects the precision and elegance of Italian interpretation of French neoclassicism, offering historical beauty and timeless appeal to both period and modern interiors. -
