Description
The octagonal tops retaining their original applied classical decoration in polychrome and en grisaille within a gilt border. The slender fluted columns above shelved tripod bases terminating in scrolls and ball feet. These late Sheraton period candle stands retain much of their original white painted decoration and the gilding has been refreshed. Candle stands of this style, given their delicate nature, are exceptionally rare survivals and this pair relate closely to a slightly late pair of Regency poles screens illustrated in 18th Century English Furniture The Norman Adams Collection, 1983 (p. 462 and in color p. 453).
