Paul Evans Sculpted Bronze PE 128 "Stalagmite" Coffee Table 1971 (Signed)
-
Description
The work of Paul Evans is characterized by its seamless joining of art with functionality, the designers craftsmanship and his bold aesthetic. No where is this more evident than in the Sculpted Metal series. Using a technique unique to his work, Evans uses sheet metal, resins and atomized bronze to create distinctive, often iconic pieces that continue to inspire and impress many decades after they were introduced.
Made for American furniture manufacturer, Directional Furniture, the sculpted metal series followed the welded steel and sculpture front creations and proceeds the designers Cityscape collection. Working in resin over a substrate, gave Evans the ability to sculpt his designs as if sculpting in clay. This resulted in more organic forms with softer edges and a more hand-made quality. It may have looked like cast metal furniture but it was not. Each piece was unique and although there are many Stalagmite #128 tables, no two are exactly the same. This table is signed and dated "PE 71" on the lower, inner side of the base. -
