Description
Used as a family altar table or for general storage, this antique Chinese coffer table is hand-carved in low relief with botanical scrollwork and chrysanthemum flowers, symbols of autumn, longevity and joy. Crafted of elm (yumu) in the mid-19th century, the table provides ample storage with three drawers and rests on straight legs that link to the rectangular top with trailing vine spandrels. The original dark lacquer finish has aged beautifully over a century of use, now softly faded for a timeworn appearance.
