Description
Produced in Brazil in the 1950s, this elegant round side table exemplifies the restrained architectural language that defined Brazilian modernism in the postwar period. Crafted in solid rosewood, the design is centered around a circular top supported by a robust central column, terminating in a four-point cruciform base accented with discreet brass-capped feet.
The composition recalls the structural logic of mid-century Brazilian architecture, where vertical supports and radial plans were used to achieve clarity, balance, and visual stability. Much like a pavilion column or pilotis system, the central pedestal distributes weight evenly while allowing the form to remain visually light and open.
The warm density of the rosewood contrasts subtly with the brass details, a pairing frequently employed by Brazilian designers of the era to introduce refinement without ornamentation. Though the designer remains unidentified, the table reflects the high level of craftsmanship and material intelligence characteristic of Brazil’s finest furniture workshops during the 1950s and early 1960s.
Versatile in scale and timeless in presence, this side table works effortlessly beside a sofa or armchair, or as a bedside table—offering a quiet yet confident expression of Brazilian modern design grounded in architectural principles. -
