Description
Pair of large Sèvres style pedestals in porcelain, ormolu and green onyx
French, Late 19th Century
Height 87cm, width 40cm, depth 40cm
These beautiful wares are a pair of large, antique, Sèvres-style pedestals in porcelain, ormolu, and framed in green onyx, painted with mythological scenes of putti and adorned with exquisite gilding against a rich dark cobalt-blue ground. Mounted on square bases in green onyx, set upon small square gilt feet, the main body of each pedestal is crafted from porcelain with further square green onyx surmounts on which to present the vase, sculpture, or other decorative piece of one's choice for each.
The pedestals showcase beautiful examples of Sèvres style porcelain, with a rich blue ground, and wonderful Rococo style paintings depicting putti cavorting in ethereal dreamscapes. The bands of the porcelain, with wide gadrooned elements, are meticulously delineated throughout with gilding in egg-and-dart and acanthus reed friezes. Of an unusual and remarkable design, they are meticulously painted and emblazoned with immaculate gilding, representing some of the finest antique wares in the Sèvres style.
